The courthouse parking lot on Sarpy County’s main campus at 84th Street and Highway 370 has reopened following a construction project that demolished the old jail and expanded parking.

Work began in April that included demolishing the old jail. With the building cleared, crews resurfaced the lot on the west side of campus to add about 80 new parking spaces, as well as sidewalks.

The project followed the completion of the state-of-the-art Sarpy County Correctional Center, which opened in late 2023 on the Papillion campus. The new correctional center has addressed capacity needs and supports modern jail operations, rehabilitative programming, a dedicated behavioral health unit and other forward-thinking, best-practice improvements.
