Classic Broadway Musical Fiddler on the Roof Comes to Bellevue Stage
Bellevue Little Theatre, 203 W. Mission in Bellevue, will present the award-winning musical ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ the weekends of March 13, 20, and 27. Curtain is 7:30 pm on Friday and Saturday Evenings and 2 pm on Sunday.
This musical, which opened on Broadway in 1964, is based on “Tevye the Dairyman” and other short stories by Sholem Aleichem, a popular yiddish humorist. The story centers on Tevye, a milkman in the village of Anatevka who attempts to maintain his Jewish traditions as outside influences encroach upon his family’s lives. He must cope with the strong-willed actions of his three daughters, who wish to marry for love. He questions their choices of husbands and struggles to accept those choices that do not conform to his traditional views. The musical blends humor with Tevya’s intensity and the struggles he encounters in everyday life. His struggles come to a head as an edict of the Russian tsar evicts the jews from their village. The musical’s dramatic conclusion leaves the audience with an understanding of the importance of family, love, and tradition.
The musical contains memorable songs ‘Sunrise, Sunset’, ‘If I Were a Rich Man’, ‘Matchmaker’, ‘Tradition’, and others, which contribute to the mood and message of this classic tale.

D Laureen Pickle is directing this musical with Meg Latta serving as music director. Julie Moore-Stanfill is the choreographer, Krista Freimuth is the stage manager, assisted by Colleen Ostdiek. Costume designer is Todd Uhrmacher, props designer is Jenny Cupak-Carroll, scenic and lighting designer is Joey Lorincz, and Sound designer is Joe Mokrycki.
