Step Into a World of Legends and Mythical Creatures at Bellevue Public Library

This spring, Bellevue Public Library invites adults to escape the ordinary and enter a realm of imagination, creativity, and discovery with its six-week Adult Library Program, “Legends and Mythical Creatures,” running April 19 through May 30.

The adventure begins on Sunday, April 19, with a free, family-friendly outdoor kickoff celebration on the library lawn. From live music by Blues Agent to food trucks from Monster Dogs, All Puffed Up: A Greek Donut Experience, and Gracie’s Soda and Sips, the afternoon promises something for all ages. Families can enjoy attractions including emergency vehicles from Bellevue Police and Fire Departments, bounce house, selfie station, and a 3D printing demonstration. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to relax and enjoy the festivities. Community partners and local businesses—including Athletico, Today’s Dental, Bellevue Lions Club, the Bellevue Public Library Foundation, and Friends of the Bellevue Public Library—will host activity tables with games and giveaways throughout the event.

Adults can register for the Adult Library Program at the kickoff and throughout the program. The first 200 registrants will receive either a free drink from Gracie’s Soda and Sips, a free basket of donuts from All Puffed Up: A Greek Donut Experience, or a free hot dog from Monster Dogs, and all adult registrants will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card.

Over the following six weeks, participants can explore a wide-ranging lineup of free programs inspired by legendary stories and mythical worlds. Offerings include chair yoga; book bingo; puzzle, LEGO, and poetry competitions; junk journaling; book nook crafting; a quilt show; a fix-it clinic; a microbiome presentation; craft, game, and plant swaps; essential oils and cottage foods classes; floral design; a presentation from the UNO Planetarium; and a Procreate digital art class. Take-home kits will allow participants to create items such as diamond-painted bookmarks, dragon eye jars, phoenix lotion bars, unicorn bath salts, and dragon soap.

Participants earn drawing entries by reading books or attending programs, which can be applied toward one of three grand prizes:

• The Cloak of Legends – a handcrafted, reading-themed quilt
• The Tome of Infinite Tales – a Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition
• The Adventurer’s Supply Kit – $300 in gift cards to Casey’s, Menards, and Cornhusker Auto Wash

Whether you are drawn to crafting, learning, reading, or simply enjoying a bit of magic, Legends and Mythical Creatures offers a free and imaginative way for adults to connect with the library and the community.
