Obituary: In Memory of Marlene Marie Skradski

Marlene Marie Skradski: January 29, 1933 – March 6, 2026, Age 93

Marlene Marie Skradski, 93, passed away March 6, 2026, in Bellevue, Nebraska. Marlene was born on January 29, 1933, in Brainard, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Theresa Fiala; brother Adrian Fiala, Sr.; sister Theresa Otoupalik; husband Ed; and daughter Jane Spires. She is survived by her son-in-law Mike Spires (Kristine) and grandchildren Ethan and Elizabeth Spires; daughter Julia Penn and grandchildren Kenny Cramm and Danielle Vega; 2 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marlene graduated from Omaha Central High School in 1950. She had a career that included numerous administrative jobs for Cudahy (where she met Ed), St. Mary’s of Bellevue Catholic Church rectory, Daniel J. Gross, an Omaha consulting firm, and Mutual of Omaha as a legal secretary for 10 years before retiring in 1996.

Ed and Marlene were married in 1953 and were members of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Bellevue, which were very important parts of their lives. Marlene was a member of the Catholic Daughters, and for several years, Ed and Marlene were involved in the Shut-in Ministry. They had the opportunity to travel overseas to Croatia and other religious sites over the years, making their lives quite full. Ed and Marlene loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed their poker nights.

Marlene was an accomplished artist and painted most of her life with oils, watercolors, and pen and ink with which her father was extremely accomplished as well. In the late 1980’s, she was named artist of the month by the Bellevue Artists Association. Many of her paintings were displayed in her home, and many of her family and friends were blessed to have the gifts of her work. Marlene will always be remembered for her love of old movies (and knowledge of every actor and actress), mystery movies and programs, and numerous television series.

Visitation: Friday, March 13, 5:00-7:00 p.m., with Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m., both at Bellevue Memorial Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, March 14, 10:30 a.m., St. Mary’s of Bellevue Catholic Church, 2302 South Crawford Street, Bellevue, NE 68005.
