The Children’s Department is leveling up this June and July during the “Level Up At Your Library” Summer Library Program! Will you accept the challenge? Games, bingo, art, a movie, trivia, jigsaw contest, audiobook campout, and nine opportunities for a grand prize slip to put toward one of the many prizes that will be on display! Registration opens June 1 at the library, and you will have two whole months to show your community how you can Level Up!

The Children’s programs are split into two age groups: Early Literacy for ages 0-4 and School-Age for grades K-6 (including 5-year-olds going into kindergarten and 6th graders graduating up to 7th). Become Player 1 by reviewing and signing a contract to receive the School-Age Challenge Page or Early Literacy Challenge Booklet. Follow the instructions to achieve each week’s final goal of spinning the prize wheel (K-6th grade) or puck drop (0-4 years) and receiving a grand prize slip. There will be several grand prizes to pick from with any combination of books, games, toys, puzzles, etc.

We double up our programs during the summer so there is something happening every day. Early Literacy has three different storytimes this year. We are bringing back Baby Storytime for families with babies 0-18 months. Join Brandi for a half hour of a shared story, gentle music, and interactive peer play with baby-friendly objects. There will be two storytime opportunities for families with children 18 months-5 years to attend: Tuesdays at the library and Thursdays at Everett Park. On Mondays there will either be a Pre-K STEAM project to register for or an interactive game to participate in for the 3- to 5-year-olds.

Many of our School-Age programs, like Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) Book Club and Maker Lab, will be offered twice a month. Michelle has dreamed up a competitive day for each month, also with a Glo-lympics in June and Jigsaw Mania in July. The ever-favorite Kids in the Kitchen will happen each month with some mouth-watering recipes. And of course, we will have all of our 4-legged friends here each month during Pawsitive Reading.

Our all-ages programming is called Families with Children (through Grade 6). This includes our special programs like the Illustration Workshop with author Bruce Arant, Magic with Jeff Quinn, Wildlife Encounters, and Stomp, Chomp, Roar with Dinosaur Ranger Anthony. We will have a video game-themed bingo hour for each month with fun prizes. Every Monday the handheld microscopes will be available for exploring tiny worlds. Every Thursday, we will offer special challenges to level up, like Jenga, LEGO, board games, and drawing. Every Friday you’ll see the STEM Cart rolled out, offering an opportunity to build and tinker.  Each month, we will have an after-hours program called Audiobook Campout, where we will eat sandwiches (maybe s’mores) and listen to a story in our PJs.
