Obituary: In Memory of Arlene Marlette (Boegen) Christie
Arlene Marlette (Boegen) Christie, May 20, 1936 ~ June 1, 2025, Age 89
Arlene attended St. John’s Lutheran Church and School thru 8th grade, and then attended Bellevue Assembly of God, now Bellevue Christian Center, from February 1987 to the present. She was a congregant at First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth prior to Bellevue Christian Center.
Arlene was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 20, 1936, to Arthur C. & Marguerite E. Seaquist Boegen. She lived on Dakin Street until she was 3 years old and then moved to 4550 North LaPorte Avenue and resided there until the age of 19. Arlene moved to Elmhurst, Illinois, until she married Dale P. Christie on August 25, 1956. She attended Carl Schurz High School in Chicago from 1950-1954. After that, she worked in the office of Sears Ladies Apparel Warehouse near North Avenue and Cicero from 1954-1955. Subsequent employment includes Soil Testing Services in the office, and Aetna Insurance in Park Ridge, Illinois in the accounting department until April of 1958.
After their first child, Debra Lynn Rogers, was born, Arlene and her husband Dale, an Air Force man, moved to Marietta, Georgia in November of 1958. Later they moved to Puerto Rico in June of 1960 for a 3-year tour. Upon completing the tour, Arlene lived with her parents in Galesburg, Illinois with Debbie to attend Galesburg School of Beauty. Dale was stationed in Duluth, Minnesota at the time.
After graduating from Beauty School, Arlene and Debbie moved to Duluth, Minnesota. Arlene worked part-time at a Target Store as a cashier while in Duluth as well as doing beauty work for friends and neighbors in her home. While Debbie and Arlene stayed in Duluth, Dale had a 6- month school in Chanute, Illinois.
Dale’s tours of duty included Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 1965-1968, and one-year tour of duty in Vietnam. When he returned, the family moved to Plattsmouth, Nebraska, July 1968.
The couple adopted Mailyn (from South Vietnam) in March of 1969; she was 2 ½ years old and David P. was born at the Ehrling Berquist Hospital at Offutt Air Force Base. Dale retired from the Air Force in July 1973.
The family lived in mobile homes most of the time, except while in Puerto Rico. In September 1972, they bought a house in Plattsmouth since the family was out growing its mobile home. All of the children attended Plattsmouth schools, although Debbie did attend schools in Duluth and Oklahoma City. When David was in 4th grade, Arlene got a position at the Cass County Mental Health Clinic as office manager/secretary. She volunteered at the clinic for 2 – 3 years before working there for 13 years concluding May 1990. Arlene enjoyed working one morning a week as a volunteer at the Base Hospital in the Physical Therapy Clinic.
Preceded in death by her husband Dale; parents Arthur & Marguerite Boegen; son-in-law Philip Rogers.
Survived by her children Debbie Rogers, Mailyn VanSickle (Jim), David Christie (Lisa); grandchildren Andrew VanSickle, Daniel Christie, Joshua Christie, Sarah Edwards-Walter; great grandson Kyson Sharp; brother David Boegen (Barb Hall).
