BPS 8-12 Choral Festival Celebrates 50 Years

It’s an amazing sight to see and an even more beautiful sound to hear!

The 50th Anniversary of the Annual Bellevue Public Schools 8-12 Choral Festival is this Thursday, April 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Bellevue East High School gymnasium and the public is invited to attend.

The festival will include over 400 vocal music students from Bellevue East and Bellevue West High Schools, as well as Lewis & Clark, Logan Fontenelle, and Mission Middle Schools.

This year’s clinician is Dr. Anthony Trecek-King, a 1994 graduate of Bellevue West High School. Dr. Trecek-King will be in residence this week, working with individual choirs at the 5 secondary schools. The event will culminate on Thursday in a full-day clinic with the students, followed by an evening performance for the public.

The Concert will feature the premier of a piece titled “With Jubilant Song” that was written specifically for this festival. The music was written by Dr. David von Kampen and the words by Miranda Davis, the Nebraska State Junior Poet Laureate. Miranda attended Avery Elementary School when her family lived in Bellevue.

It is quite an accomplishment that this event has continued for 50 years and is still going strong. It has been a favorite event of Bellevue choir students for generations, and we are so excited to bring a special celebration to this momentous anniversary. Former teachers and accompanists have been invited to attend the performance, and alumni are welcome to attend and reminisce about their time participating in this event.

Special thanks to the BPS District and the Bellevue Public Schools Foundation for supporting this fantastic opportunity for our students!
