Lost pets often end up in the care of Good Samaritans who want to help but don’t have the tools to scan for a microchip. By lending out microchip scanners, the library hopes to give community members the power to take immediate action in reuniting pets with their families.

The initiative was inspired by the growing number of pet owners who microchip their animals but lack widespread access to scanners outside veterinary clinics or animal control.

Each scanner kit includes:

  • A rechargeable universal microchip scanner
  • Charging cord
  • Instructions for use in English, Spanish, French, Dutch, German, and Italian

The lending period is one week. Library staff encourage patrons to use the scanners responsibly and return them promptly to ensure availability for others.

To borrow a pet microchip scanner, visit the Bellevue Public Library’s circulation desk or reserve one online by searching “Microchip scanner” in the library catalog.
