Bellevue Little Theatre will open its 58th season Sept. 18 with “Cry-Baby,” a musical comedy based on the John Waters film of the same name.
The production will run through Oct. 4 at Bellevue Little Theatre, 203 W. Mission Ave. in Olde Towne Bellevue. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.
The theater’s 58th season will be dedicated to Al Soderlund, a longtime supporter who served several years as president of Bellevue Little Theatre. Soderlund was president when the theater completed payment on its building.
“We owe Al a debt of gratitude for his many years of service, and we honor him with this dedication,” the theater said in announcing the season.
“Cry-Baby” takes audiences back to the 1950s for the story of a rebellious “bad boy” from the wrong side of town who falls for a “good girl” from the other side of town. Conflict follows when her boyfriend and his friends vow revenge.
The fast-paced musical explores teenage life and changing social expectations of the era through comedy, music and dance.
The stage musical is based on John Waters’ 1990 movie “Cry-Baby,” which starred Johnny Depp in the title role early in his film career.
Todd Uhrmacher directs the Bellevue Little Theatre production, with D. Laureen Pickle serving as music director and Debbie Massey Schneweis as choreographer. Jenny Cupak-Carroll is stage manager and also oversees props. Joey Lorincz serves as scenic and lighting designer, and Syd Martin is sound designer.

ASL interpreters will be available for the 7:30 p.m. performance Oct. 2.
