Next Phase of Capehart Road Project Advances Toward Spring 2026 Completion
After two months of detours, Capehart Road will reopen to through traffic near 48th Street beginning Monday, Dec. 15, offering relief to drivers who regularly travel the busy Bellevue corridor.
Sarpy County officials said the reopening marks a significant milestone in the ongoing, multi-phase improvement project at the intersection of Capehart Road and 48th Street. While traffic will once again be able to pass through the area, construction work will continue as crews move into the next stage of the project.
The long-term improvements include widening the existing T-intersection to accommodate a five-lane divided cross-section of Capehart Road, installing a new traffic signal at the intersection, and adding a dedicated left-turn lane onto 48th Street. Additional upgrades include new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and the installation of a modern storm sewer system.
Earlier phases of construction required extended closures between 45th and 48th Streets to allow crews to complete roadway widening and underground utility work. During that time, traffic was detoured to nearby routes, while access for local residents and businesses was maintained.
County officials said the improvements are designed to enhance traffic flow and safety while supporting continued growth in the area. The overall project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2026.
Motorists are reminded to remain alert for workers, equipment, and temporary traffic control devices as construction continues. Sarpy County thanked the public for its patience as work progresses to improve the county’s road network.
