It’s been a very stressful nine months for the “Nettie’s Family”. On December 22, 2022 a fire started at longtime Bellevue restaurant Nettie’s Fine Mexican Food. Everyone got out ok, but the restaurant was a complete loss.
The community stepped up to help the family and their team during this very difficult time through various fundraisers and events.
Word came a few months ago that the “Nettie’s Family” had time to think things over and the decision was they were going to rebuild. This was wonderful news for the family and the Bellevue/South Omaha community. They worked on getting the land rezoned and had an architect draw up plans for a new building.
However, several setbacks over the summer have hindered progress and decreased the likelihood that the restaurant will reopen. The family applied for Community Development Block Grant funding to help with the costs but received nothing. On top of that, when they received their ‘real cost’ estimate it came in roughly half a million more than the original estimate.
The family still has some other opportunities they are exploring, but the path to rebuild isn’t as clear-cut as it was earlier this year. They expressed their gratitude for the love they have received from the community these past nine months and they are hoping for the best for the future.
