Bellevue University, one of the nation’s leaders in preparing students for lifelong success with career-relevant knowledge and skills, has launched a 100% online Medical Cannabis Certificate Program.

Dr. Andrea Holmes and Dr. Amanda McKinney, recognized cannabis industry experts, have partnered with the university to develop the certificate program curriculum.

The program is designed for those who want to understand the medicinal and therapeutic uses of cannabis in professional medical practice, retail, and e-commerce settings, and for those focused on using cannabis personally to treat disease and improve quality of life.

Students who enroll in the program can earn 16 semester hours of college-level credit and are eligible to apply for financial aid. This certificate is academic in nature and does not include any hands-on experiential learning such as cultivation or processing. Students from around the United States and the world are able to enroll.

“This program is intended to help learners gain an understanding of how cannabis works in the body and how it can be used in their professional practice or personal life,” James Lewis, Assistant Dean of the College of Science and Technology, said. “The cannabis industry is constantly evolving and we’re excited to provide an educational option to those pursuing a career in this emerging field.”

Leafly, a cannabis marketplace and online resource, found 428,059 full-time equivalent jobs supported by legal cannabis as of January 2022 in its annual job report. Last year, the cannabis industry created an average of 280 new jobs per day.
