This Weekend: Special Fundraiser for Paralyzed, Retired Bellevue Police Officer

Bellevue Times | This Weekend: Special Fundraiser for Paralyzed, Retired Bellevue Police Officer | November 21, 2024

Roger Anderson served the Bellevue community for nearly 30 years as an officer with the Bellevue Police Department. Anderson spent four years in the Army and six years with the National Guard with the C Troop 167th Air Cavalry. He then served the next 3+ decades of his life in public service, including two years with the Papillion Police Department, ten years with the Bellevue Fire Department, and 29 years as a Bellevue Police Officer.

After more than 40 years of service to country and community, Retired Officer Anderson needs our help.

Earlier this year, Anderson suffered a series of strokes, leaving him paralyzed. He was taken to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Omaha. Anderson went into cardiac arrest shortly after arriving. CPR was administered and he was transferred back to CHI Lakeside for examination. Eventually, Anderson was transferred back to Madonna, but the bills had already begun to pile up.

Anderson is home now but in addition to paralysis, he faces the expensive costs of the prolonged stay at Madonna, four ambulance rides, more than a dozen scans, and two months of medical bills. Going forward, Anderson requires other equipment to help him including a specialized wheelchair, wheelchair van, chair lift, stair chair, and a revamped bathroom.

A benefit spaghetti feed is being held for this weekend to help raise money for Officer Anderson, to help offset some of the enormous costs. The fundraiser is this Saturday, October 14th, at 1pm and runs until 7pm.
