The splash pads and city pools have been busy during this hot summer. If you haven’t been able to visit them there’s plenty of heat left.
Speaking of heat, I want to give a shout-out to all of our city workers who are working out in it on a daily basis. The parks and streets look great and our police and fire are keeping us safe as usual.
Bellevue’s planning and permits department has been busy with new housing developments, multi-family projects, commercial/retail and industrial site work. Some of those projects include a new housing development expanding the Lakewood Village area to the west with mixed-use along Highway 370, a new modern apartment complex that will replace the college apartments, new industrial warehousing at the Highway 75 and Fairview Road area which includes a new site for Papillion sanitation, some low to moderate income housing behind Beardmore Chevrolet on Kasper St and at 30th and Chandler, and the new office campus project at Highway 34 and Highway 75. This is just to mention a few and to give you an idea of how fast Bellevue is growing.
Capehart Road has been a monster project on its own but it is taking shape and I think people are realizing how much better it is going to be. Just a little more patience please and we will have a great north-south corridor. Once the project is complete south of Highway 370 we will start work on 36 street north of Highway 370.
As everyone has heard by now, Bellevue has two locations where there are license plate readers. There is much confusion about what these cameras do. What they do is record license plates going through certain intersections and this data is put into a central system. They do not report speeders, people running red lights or any other traffic violations. What they do is help us find criminals like robbers, assault suspects, burglars, and real bad actors.
That said, please slow down on the city streets. We have more traffic, more population, and more kids playing outside, especially during the summer months.
