Green Bellevue Announces Earth Day in Bellevue

Green Bellevue announced its April 14th program is “Earth Day in Bellevue” at Bellevue University Symposium Room (B level) in the John Mueller Administration Building from 1:30pm – 3:30pm.

There will be door prizes, a raffle, and a scavenger hunt, in addition to displays by over 20 groups
from the local community.

The global Earth Day theme is “Planet vs. Plastics”, calling for a 60% reduction in the production of single-use plastics by 2040. “This Earth Day, we are proud to spotlight Omaha’s materials recovery facility (recycling center), Firstar Fiber, Inc., which has launched an innovative plastic recycling business, Solutions Plastic Lumber & Decking Products, to recycle difficult-to-recycle plastics into durable, plastic lumber for all sorts of uses,” said Ruth Richter, Green Bellevue President.

“Since Firstar introduced the Hefty EnergyBag program to Bellevue in 2016, we have been working to
demonstrate solutions for plastic waste destined for the landfill, and now we are putting that plastic to use in versatile products,” said Danielle Easedale, Director of Sales and Marketing for Firstar, who will attend. The popular orange bag program has since been rebranded to Hefty® ReNew® to align with this.

Co-sponsors of this event are Green Bellevue partners: Bellevue Native Plant Society, Milkweed
Matters & the Bellevue Tree Board.
