Google Fiber Starts Serving First Bellevue Neighborhood

Work began earlier this year on the Google Fiber network installation in Bellevue. Last week, Google Fiber quietly turned on its first Bellevue neighborhood near Bellevue West High School, giving around a hundred homes a new Internet Service Provider option.

“We are super excited that our first batch of addresses were opened for sign up last week,” said Rachel Merlo, GFiber Head of Government and Community Affairs – Central Region. “So there are folks around the Bellevue West area that are able to sign up for service. We will continue to release addresses as construction advances through the city.”

The best way to find out if your residence is available to receive GFiber is to go to https://fiber.google.com/ and enter your address to check. Merlo went on to say that as more neighborhoods go live, residents will also receive direct mailings from GFiber letting them know.

As reported earlier this year, GFiber partnered with another Internet Service Provider, ALLO, to build its network across Bellevue. Due to this new partnership, ALLO Fiber will not be building its own network in Bellevue. “ALLO Fiber is building the network for Google Fiber in Bellevue. Once the GFiber network is built, Google will maintain the network and serve customers in the city,” said Tanna Hanna, Director of Marketing and Social Media for ALLO Fiber. “ALLO will continue to build fiber networks in Papillion, La Vista, Ralston, and Gretna, but we will not be building a fiber network in Bellevue now or after completing the other Omaha markets.”

Merlo estimated it will probably be in 2026 for all the network to be completely installed throughout the city. “We expect the rest of the buildout will take a couple of years. We are doing construction both underground and aerially and as with any city in the Midwest, weather becomes a factor.”

Merlo said that they do plan to bring their network to the entire city. “At this point, we’re planning to extend the network to most of Bellevue. We haven’t come across an area of town yet that would prevent us from installing the network.”

If you live in an apartment or rent your residence, Google Fiber has an online form for property managers and owners interested in connecting their properties during installation. The form can be found here.

GFiber offers 1, 2, 5, and 8 Gigabit service plans with no data caps and no installation fees. They also provide all of the hardware needed to connect. Depending on the level of service, routers and mesh wifi extenders are included as well with no monthly charges. Current pricing is $70 a month for 1 gigabit download speed, $100 for 2 gigabit, $125 for 5 gigabit, and $150 for 8 gigabit.
