One of the longest running holiday traditions in Bellevue is back for another season.

The Fontenelle Hills Homeowners Association is set to host their 51st annual La Noche de unas Luminarias – The Night of Lights! According to association president Rich Casey, the tradition began in 1970. “At the time, they used to do something similar on General’s Row (in Offutt Air Force Base) and I think it started with that. Several of the homeowners back then were generals from the Air Force Base and I think they wanted to extend the General’s Row luminaries to Fontenelle Hills.”

Each year over 210 homes set out and light over 4,000 candles. The candles are placed in bags of sand, lighting the roads throughout the neighborhood. Over the years, visitors from all over the Omaha Metro have made the trip to Fontenelle Hills a part of their holiday routine. Mr. Casey estimates that over 20,000 cars have driven through the hills to view the luminaries over the past 50 years.

The Night of Lights will be available to drive through on Thursday, December 23rd from 6:30pm – 9:30pm and Friday, December 24th from 6:30pm – Until the candles burn out. You can enter Fontenelle Hills by turning east at the intersection of Greg Road and Bellevue Boulevard or turning north at the intersection of Forest Drive and Bellevue Boulevard.
