Election Commision to Recount City Council Ward 1 Votes on December 4

A ballot recount for Bellevue City Council Ward 1 begins next Wednesday at the Sarpy County Election Commission. Out of nearly 4,000 votes cast in the Ward 1 election, less than 20 votes separate incumbent councilman Thomas Burns and his challenger, Herb Evers, a retired Bellevue Police captain.

According to Sapry County Election Commission Emily Ethington, “The Sarpy County Election Commission plans to recount all ballots involved in the Bellevue City Council Ward 1 race as the results to determine the winner are within the automatic recount parameters outlined in Nebraska Revised Statute § 32-1119. The political subdivision and candidates have been notified that this recount will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 beginning at 9:00 a.m.”

As it currently stands, Burns leads with 1,989 votes compared to 1,971 for Evers. 27 votes were cast for write-in candidates.
