Public Service Announcement provided by the Bellevue Fire Department
Most of you have smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your homes/apartments. How many of you test them regularly? You should test them monthly to ensure they are in good working order. Also, if a detector is older than 10-15 years old they should be replaced. With Daylight Savings being right around the corner (12 March 2023 @ 2:00am), the one thing we encourage everyone to do along with changing your clocks is to replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. This ensures you always have a working detector in your home should there ever be a fire or carbon monoxide leak.
Even if you have hard-wired detectors, most have a battery backup and it is strongly encouraged to replace those batteries as well. If you have a detector on a high ceiling out of your reach, the Bellevue Fire Department can assist you with changing those out. All you need to do is provide the batteries and schedule a date/time with our Fire Prevention Officer Brian Koontz. The Bellevue Fire Department can also provide one free smoke detector and one free carbon monoxide detector to those who may not be able to afford them.
