BPD Honors Officer and Detective of the Year

Bellevue Times | BPD Honors Officer and Detective of the Year | November 21, 2024

The Bellevue Police Department came together again on Saturday, March 18th, for the Bellevue Police Department Annual Awards Banquet – during which we unveiled the Detective and Officer of the Year for 2022.

As we wrote last year at this time, “Each year the Excellence in Law Enforcement Committee, (which is made up of officers representing every part of the Bellevue Police Department) comes together to determine the Bellevue Police Department Detective and Officer of the Year.”

For the second year in a row, we would like to celebrate the accomplishments of these officers with the help of the Bellevue Times.

2022 Officer of the Year – Marcus Larr

Officer Marcus Larr’s work productivity during 2022 was exemplary. Officer Larr led the Department with self-initiated activities in 2022 with 869 contacts. This was 209 more than the next highest officer. Self-initiated activities are those that an officer initiates when not on another call-for-service (CFS). Considering that Officer Larr had the second highest CFS as well, speaks highly for him considering that his time for self-initiated calls would be significantly less than other officers.

During the year, Officer Larr wrote the most traffic citations (588), had the third highest number of written traffic warnings (318), and highest number of total arrests (279). These arrests included 169 narcotics arrests and 32 DUI arrests.

Besides these self-initiated activities, there were multiple examples of the selfless leadership he provided, where he coordinated efforts within the department – which yielded positive outcomes for his fellow employees, and for the public we serve.

Officer Larr’s former Lieutenant wrote, “He simply grinds every single shift, all year long.”

2022 Detective of the Year – Jamey Murray

Detective Murray had a very successful year and was the lead detective on several high-profile investigations that spanned several months.

In one instance he worked with the United States Attorney’s office to indict a convicted felon who stole firearms from a casino in Council Bluffs. The convicted felon was also involved in stealing from different department stores across the metro area. Detective Murray got a confession after working on this case several months into the year.

Throughout the year, Detective Murray coordinated numerous felony drug arrests, seizing over thirteen pounds of methamphetamine, seizing numerous firearms, as well as large quantities of U.S. currency.

Detective Murray was active with local task forces and assisted neighboring agencies on investigations numerous times. He also went out of his way to assist other investigative personnel, as well as those on patrol.

Detective Murray’s former Sergeant wrote, “He has been recognized by the supervisors and command staff for his interviewing skills. He is also a go-to guy after hours that responds whenever asked.”

Congratulations to both officers on an outstanding 2022!
