There were smiles all around Friday as Bellevue University hosted an open house to showcase the progress made on its new 72,000-square-foot field house. Construction is still underway and should be completed in early 2025. However, due to the mild winter in Bellevue, things are a little ahead of schedule.

The new facility will encompass more than 72,000 square feet, including courts for both volleyball and basketball competitions and chair-back seating for over 1,000 fans. Other highlights include a Hall of Fame room for alumni and current athletes, a dedicated press room, and a centralized place for all of the head coaches’ offices.

Additional features include a practice gym, top-tier athletic training facility, weight room, conditioning center, student-athlete lounge, indoor golf practice room and simulator, A/V production room for analyzing game film, and locker rooms with enhanced video/technology integration.

Bellevue University Athletic Director Ed Lehotek said, “We think it’s going to be a game changer. Our coaches have always been solid recruiters, but we feel this is going to take recruiting to a whole different level.”

“This state-of-the-art facility is a major step in our strategic facilities plan,” said Bellevue University President Mary Hawkins. “It opens up opportunities for us to enhance and expand student services and resources for our students who learn on campus and those who learn online.”
