The City of Bellevue Police and Fire Department’s along with the Public Works Department have announced that American Heroes Park and the Haworth Park Campground and Public Boat Docks have been closed to the public as of Noon today, Monday, June 24th. These closures are due to the rising waters of the Missouri River and the forecast for those flood waters to rise even further this week.
In a social media statement, Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike said, “The river is rising once again. River water is a hard thing to predict with all the variables but low area flooding is starting to occur. If you are on the Missouri River side of the levee, you will definitely have some issues. The levee system was reinforced after the 2019 Flood and is all complete and should hold everything on the river side. Camp Gifford farm has been evacuated and Hayworth Park is being prepped as well. Bellevue has commenced our Emergency Operations Command to stay on top of any developing issues. City crews are working hard in preparation of rising waters, and the Bellevue Fire Department and Bellevue Police Department are monitoring any safety concerns. As always, please call 911 for any emergencies.”
