The Greater Omaha Chapter of AFCEA recently held their annual Holiday Mixer at the Beardmore Event Center.  One of AFCEA’s (the Air Force Communications and Electronics Association) missions is to fund local STEM efforts in the form of classroom grants and student scholarships. Over the past five years, the Omaha Chapter of AFCEA has donated more than $35,000 towards local STEM initiatives and scholarships.

Listed below are a few of the classroom grant recipients this year..

Angela Daughtrey teaches Precalculus, Calculus, and Advanced Math Placement at Bellevue West High School. Mrs. Daughtrey received an AFCEA STEM Grant for $1,000. She is using the funds to build a puzzle library with store bought STEM puzzles as well as homemade ones that will be used in her classroom and available to other teachers and students in the math and science departments.

Michaela Algya teaches 8th grade science at Lewis and Clark Middle School. Ms. Algya received an AFCEA STEM Grant for $700. She will be using the funds to purchase a variety of science lab and experimentation items for her Forensic Science program.

Steve Hamersky teaches Science, Computer Programming, Robotics, and Engineering at Daniel J. Gross High School. Mr. Hamersky received an AFCEA STEM Grant for $1,000. He is using the funds to purchase drones and microcontrollers for use in STEM Courses, extra-curricular programs, and summer camps.
