Bellevue University has reached a milestone in the construction of its new Field House with the installation of the “B-U” letters, marking the final phase before the official grand opening on Wednesday, April 23.
The grand opening event at 2102 Harvell Circle in Bellevue will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours of the 72,000-square-foot facility, and a volleyball scrimmage against Iowa Western Community College. Doors open at 4 p.m., with the program starting at 4:15 p.m., followed by the match at 6 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
The “B-U” letters were designed by Nebraska-born artist Matthew Placzek, who has also created other works on Bellevue’s campus, including the “Connections” puzzle pieces. Placzek’s career spans over 30 years, and he has pieces included in over 200 healthcare, university, zoo, event center and corporate collections.
